5th Day Non-Rankers: The Under 3

It's Thursday, so it's time for the 5th Day Rankers! But today, it's a little different. Today, in accordance of my contribution to the Green Monkey Music Project's The Under 3 (the complete mix is here), I'm going to (confusingly) explain to you why I chose the songs I did. I tried at least. The theme was songs under three minutes, hence The Under 3...

1. Lindsay Lohan, "Frankie & Johnny" (from A Prairie Home Companion) [dwnld]
Why this? To remind you all that she has more talent than you. She's just criminally wasted it on underage drinking, rumoured lesbianism, and lots of drugs. I mean, Freaky Friday, Mean Girls, this, Bobby. She's a phenomenal actress, and especially a great singer. Don't forget that. I'm threatening you, yes.

2. Shigeru Umebayashi, "The Echo Game" (from House of Flying Daggers) [dwnld]
Why this? Because it's one of the greatest pieces ever written, that's why! I'm not even a minute and a half long, but it's perfect. And the fact that the scene it accompanies is one of the greatest action moments ever only adds to it's genius.

3. KT Tunstall, "Hold On" [dwnld]
Why this? Because it's the best damn song of the year. There's nothing better than KT. Maybe chocolate. But even that's slim! Yes, the world will turn if you're ready or not. I love you.

4. Jennifer Hudson, "Love You I Do" (from Dreamgirls) [dwnld]
Why this? Because it's a great song. It uses it's happy up tempo attitude to great effect (if you take out the fact that's it's incredibly naive in the context of the characters).

5. Kelly Clarkson, "Respect" (from Ella Enchanted specifically) [dwnld]
Why this? Because I really, really love it, that's why! And she does the song surprisingly great justice.

6. Panic! At the Disco, "The Only Difference Betweeen Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage" [dwnld]
Why this? Because it's a weird choice, and the 2nd best Panic! song. I substantially love them, for whatever reason that I do. God, I'm so prep-emo.

7. Meg & Dia, "Monster" [dwnld]
Why this? Because too few of you know of it's brilliance. The lyrics make little sense when you just glance at them, but if you put a storyline over it, you see the symbolism and it's really beauty and hope (and vengeance) in the face of brutality and death. And it kinda sounds like an emo Aly & AJ. One of the best songs I've ever heard.

8. Lisa Simpson and 'Bleeding Gums' Murphy, "Jazz Man" (from "The Simpsons") [dwnld]
Why this? Because jazz is needed for anything you ever do. And Yeardly Smith does a pretty good singing through Lisa. God, I love the saxophone. But then again, who doesn't?

I have bowel movements that are more talented than Lindsay Lohan. She may have been the best of the Brittany, Paris, Lindsay troika but she is no Diane Lane or Jodie Foster.

Maybe not, but I think if she didn't stray off she would've proved that she was. But we'll never see that girl. :(

The Echo Game is a beautiful track, it fitted the scene (with the stunning cinematography and costume) perfectly.
